Until 35 years ago, sewer lines of properties were composed of earthenware pipes, and these were constantly at risk of getting blocked. These pipes, which measure two or three feet in length, are connected by their bell ends. As time passes by, ground movement causes the joints to loosen or crack allowing tree roots to access the sewer line.
The roots alone are not causing the problem. Debris flowing through the sewer line may get caught resulting to blocked drains. This, in turn, can cause a lot of issues including rising water in the toilet bowl, slow drains, sewer gully overflow and unpleasant smells.
Previously, we resolve blocked drains by using a device called an electric eel to clear the pipes from tree roots. However, clearing the blockages caused by tree roots is only a temporary solution. When roots regrow, they become thicker and stronger leading to more serious problems including broken sewer lines. Conventional methods of fixing damage pipes involve deep excavation leading to more disruptions and higher costs.
For this reason, we highly recommend a newer solution called pipe relining. This service sees our plumbing team install a tough lining in the sewer line after it is cleared. There is no digging involved in this process in most cases, and so you do not have to worry about whom to hire to restore that part of your property they dug up.
Interested? Here are more details of the steps:
– The blocked earthenware pipe is partly cleaned with a jet of water to get it ready for video inspection.
– A camera is inserted down the pipe to determine the cause and severity of the problem.
– The water jetter will be used again to completely clear the pipe of both debris and roots.
– This will serve as the new interior of the damaged sewer pipe. To set it up, the calibration tube is inflated, and steam then introduced to cure it in place.
– The video camera will then be used again to see if the lining has been correctly set up.
So what are the other advantages of this service?
This is mainly due to the durability of the lining.
Since we have a video camera and since we do not have to excavate part of your property, the task can be finished in just a few hours.
As this is a no-dig pipe rehabilitation option much of the time, you do not feel stressed seeing part of the property look like a mess and worrying about the right landscape artist to hire.
As there is no excavation involved in the process, it means you do not have to spend much for it.
